VOICEOVER
VOICEOVER
you know what’s crazy? all of my voiceover jobs have been organic and inbound—as in someone reached out to me and offered me the gig. that’s not a flex… it’s my expression of gratitude, and a reminder to heed god’s promptings: when your starting line skips the beginning, you have identified a talent to be multiplied.
North Carolina Year of the Trail | Great Trails State Coalition
January-December 2023
To celebrate and promote recent legislation to expand North Carolina’s outdoor trail network, the Great Trails State Coalition branded the Year of the Trail campaign. As the scriptwriter with Destination by Design, the agency producing content for the campaign, I worked with a small team of content producers and outdoor enthusiasts to create the script for the video that would be showcased to North Carolina's 10.7 million person statewide audience. In addition to scripting the video I was asked to be the voiceover artist to deliver the final script, and even appeared on camera with my mom at the 0:08sec mark. My contributions to the project included scriptwriting, delivering the voiceover, and appearing on camera. It was an incredibly rewarding project, and an honor to be able to represent my home state and share the wealth that is North Carolina.
YouTube Hip Hop 50 DEEP | A Global Celebration of Hip Hop
August 2023
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop, YouTube set out to create a global hero video featuring the biggest names, trends, and moments in hip hop history. As the copywriter with Creative Theory Agency, I worked within a 3 person team of hip hop enthusiasts tasked with writing the script for the video that would be showcased to YouTube's 2.7 billion monthly global audience. Originally, in addition to scripting the video I was chosen to be the voiceover artist to deliver the final script. As is common in large corporate creative pieces, an 11th hour decision from YouTube's executive team meant that Wallo, a popular influencer who has had a meteoric rise into the hip hop mainstream via his daily inspirational content, was ultimately chosen to deliver the final voiceover. My contributions to this project included scripting the voiceover, directing the recording session, and editing the audio files. This was one of the dopest projects I've ever been a part of, and I can't wait to do more of it.
Google Juneteenth 2023: Reflections of Freedom
May 2023
In May 2023, I was hired alongside Creative Theory Agency in Washington, D.C. to create the global Juneteenth anthem video for Google's internal team. As copywriter, I was tasked with writing a voiceover script for the video themed "Reflections of Freedom." As an audio producer and recording artist, I was also asked to produce the voiceover recordings with the talent chose by Google, directing their performance of the script I wrote. When Google's voiceover talent was unable to perform last minute, I was asked to deliver the script as a voiceover talent. The final video is a joy to watch, and a great moment for me to reflect on the value of showing up, doing your best, and giving possibility a chance. I now know that I love doing all parts of voiceover work, and am itching to do more…
PUBLIC SPEAKING
PUBLIC SPEAKING
this is by far my biggest welcomed recent challenge… be careful what you wish for.
while i’ve fantasized about speaking in front of people (like any normal person after watching a good 90’s ‘whodunnit’ thriller with a court scene), i’ve never put active plans or goals into place. i mean, i did start writing raps and songs, and booking shows, to be fair… but that’s different. and public speaking has always been a private dream. here’s some real life evidence of private dreams becoming public media.
“Take a Chance. It Just Might Serve You.” | Greensboro, NC Chamber of Commerce Annual Celebration
February 2024
I was recently honored as the keynote speaker at the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Celebration, where I encouraged our local business and elected leaders to learn from the creative class by taking chances. It was a humbling and challenging experience, as I got to engage many other skill sets wrapped up in this new medium of public speaking. After having done it, I’m looking forward to growing this branch of my career tree—it felt natural and purposeful.

Here’s to the Makers: A Dedication to the People Who Make Greensboro
January 2024
Moving back to North Carolina was a major risk, but one that felt necessary—not just because of the pandemic, but because of needing a reminder of where I come from. As much as I loved New York, none of the city leaders ever sat down with me to ask about my goals and ambitions the way Cecelia Thompson at Action Greensboro and Darlene Glenn-McClinton with The Artist Bloc did. So when the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce reached out for some "creative input" on a project, I was eager to help, but more importantly impressed that the city kept its promise of supporting me and my goals.
I had no idea what was in store but was honored to even be considered. If I knew then what it'd turn into—this awesome video and a TED Talk-style keynote at the Chamber's Annual Celebration—I would've been suspicious. Like "This is *exactly* what I like to do, what I would want to do if God gave me a magic wand, and what I feel called to do. What's the catch...?" Thankfully, it all unfolded beautifully, and with gifts that keep on giving. Got the pleasure of meeting and working with the powerhouse that is Seth Wingate. Went from an email to a video, to an epic event, during what would turn out to be the victory lap for the amazing Megan Mabry. And met so many amazing people that I have a new challenge of staying on top of my LinkedIn inbox.
Amplifying Excellence: Google Global Black Summit 2024
May 2024
In my mind, this one is a creative hat trick. It started with a assignment to write the script for Google’s Juneteenth celebration and their Global Black Summit—a request that I’d fulfilled the year prior. But then, a new ask: I was offered the role of being the on-camera presenter for the short film, which you simply don’t say “no” to. Then, while the video was still in post and before the music decisions had been finalized, I offered up my song “Chosen”, which had been featured in the NBA Playoffs and in the Golden Globe-nominated film Judas and the Black Messiah just three years prior. Being a natural culture fit, the production team bit. So in turnaround time of less than three weeks, I’d gone from twiddling my thumbs, wondering where all the copywriting work had gone, to scripting, presenting, and scoring a short film for Google’s global workforce. Creative victories come from unlikely sources, and it’s why creatives need to have a strong faith life and a healthy tolerance for discomfort.
The Scene: Canada | Rolling Stone
Summer 2017
One night in Harlem, exhausted after another restaurant serving shift and sore from spending weeks waking up on hardwood floors after my air mattress deflated in the night, I asked a desperate existential question: What is the greatest value I could bring this city? That question opened up the two most pivotal opportunities of my career to date. I knew that I knew how to write songs, and that if given the opportunity I could teach others to write songs, and when I performed songs people paid attention. I made two commitments: create a songwriting course syllabus, and share a song of mine anytime I was with a group of people and there was a guitar available. The songwriting syllabus turned into a teaching artist fellowship with Columbia Univeristy, and sharing a single song at a serendipitous Williamsburg birthday party turned into a travel host position with Rolling Stone magazine. The craziest part: I received the news of each opportunity within 24 hours of one another, totally elevating my life from bussing tables at a Wall Street upscale grill. God, the Universe, the spirit of creativity—whatever you call it—works in mysterious ways. But absolutely responds to asking the right questions, and stepping into the void.
