Google Global Black Summit 2024: Amplifying Excellence

When tasked to write the script for this video, I happily obliged.

When asked to be the on camera talent to deliver the script, I shyly complied.

And when operating on a leap of faith while combating that oppressive inner voice telling me I'm "doin too much," I offered my own music as the sound bed, seeing that a) I own the rights to it, and b) the tie-in to 'Judas and the Black' Messiah is the perfect culture add to the project. The response was ‘yes’.

This was an extremely special project and represented getting to flex a variety of not only skillsets, but interests. Deeply thankful to the Google team, the Creative Theory team, and all contributors so trusting me so fully with this work.

February 2022

Black Men of Google: Harmony (2022)

Google approached us (the Creative Theory team in Washington, D.C.) to create their video celebrating Black History Month. The internal strategy team had a concept of using the theme of harmony to tell the story of the ascension of three Black men through Google. I was tasked with solidifying the concept, which included conceptualizing solo, melody, and harmony as story beats, and with liaising with Google Africa’s Chief Marketing Officer Mzamo Masito to gain stakeholder buy-in and further expand the concept. The final voiceover was written by me and performed by Mzamo.

The resulting video debuted worldwide, garnering two Webby Awards in the Best Branded Corporate Social Responsibility Video category, and another one that I need to look up again but am leaving this here as placeholder copy. 😂 It also won two Anthem Awards and a Shorty Award.

YouTube 50 Deep: Celebrating 50 Years of Hip Hop

When YouTube asked us to condense 50 years of Hip Hop into 90 seconds, we knew we were looking at another impossible task: representing the world’s most dominant culture on the world’s biggest platform, to an audience mostly too young to understand the most significant references, while being judged under the unwavering scrutiny of the culture’s pioneers and stewards. Challenge accepted. This one is a special source of pride, as it represents my love and passion for music, storytelling, and team collaboration.

This one took home a Webby Award and two Communicator Awards of Excellence from the Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts.
